Ocean Kids Event-”H2O Flow”: experiments in ocean mixing
April 2014
Graduate and Undergraduate Students from the University of Miami (Meredith Jennings [station leader], Sarah Bercovici, Ben Galfond, Stacy Aguilera, Carmen Rodriguez, Evan Morrison and Kimberley Drouin) organized a chemical oceanography station for the annual Ocean Kids event at the University of Miami.
Over 125 local third grade students from multiple elementary schools participated in the event devoted to Ocean education.
This station is the first ocean chemistry station as the kids learned about different types of ocean water (warm vs cold, salty vs. fresh) and how they mix.
Special thanks to the Hansell Lab at RSMAS for helping sponsor the station.
This activity was borrowed from Teaching Physical Concepts in Oceanography published by The Oceanography Society in 2009.
